Braided Circle Rug Jan. 2008
I made this from scraps of different fabrics. I sewed 3 strips about 1-2" wide into a 42 ft. rope! then I sewed the braids together in a circle. All together it took about 5 hours, and the rug is about 22" wide. I love it!

Scrap Rug
I made this out of an old skirt and blouse, with used drapery fabric for the backing.First step: Tear the clothes into 3" x 1" strips.Second step: Cut out a rectangle of old embroidered drapery fabric and folded over the edges for a clean look.Third step: Sew the strips in alternating colors in a straight line one by one.The whole progect took about 2 hours. It's very soft and thanks to the thick embroidred material it doesn't slide much. Next time I want to make one out of sweater fabric so it will be extra cushy!

Meet a cool new Collage artist, CindyG

Here are some really eye catching collages from a artist on Etsy.com. Her work is so bold and vibrant. I had to look at all the details of every picture because she ads so much to each one. She is based in Vancouver BC, Canada. You can order custom collages for yourself or friends at
http://www.cindyg.etsy.com/.
Her collages are now available as jewelry, designed by CindyG and created by Beth Spatafora of

NICOLE YOST : ASTA ARTS, aka kick ass rubber stamps!

This week I snagged an interview with Nicole Yost creator of Asta Arts, as seen on Wickedly Chic
and Scrapbooking and How . She designs rubber stamps that you won't find at most craft stores. These are definitely not your usual rubber stamps. They are so retro and fun, when I saw her work I actually thought it was a tattoo site! Enjoy the article and then visit her site!
What Inspires You? Nicole: A lot of my stamp designs are inspired by old-school tattoo art and lowbrow culture. The images I chose for my stamps when I started out were just things I would like to use myself as a crafter.....

I found Stiksel on Etsy and was intrigued by her diverse styles. A mix including Frida Kahlo , Buddha, and old Post Bags.
My favorite pieces are the passport cases. These are so off the wall, but not too zany that you wouldn't mind carrying in public! The recycle Post Bag Journal is a great way to bring the past to life.
Stiksel is Karin, a Graphic Designer in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Her work includes photographs, textiles, collages, Prints, Bags.
She is inspired by materials and textures

HANDMADE PRETTIES, by LARA
I love Lara's HANDMADE PRETTIES. Her bright color combos really caught my eye! I love all the different materials she uses and the fun toys she creates. There's the dainty flower hairpins, vintage bird brooches, funky character pincushions, jewelry and children's clothing and more! Read below to find out all about Handmade Pretties. ENJOY!!WHAT INSPIRES YOU?LARA: I am inspired by materials, colors, shapes, all things natural, and all things weird. I often choose color combos because I see one fabric lying on top of the other. I take walks and see interesting plants or strange objects discarded on the street and find the shapes or textures interesting. I like juxtaposing unexpected patterns or materials just to see what happens. I often work like a mad scientist, throwing together things just to see what will happen (incidentally I have a lot of failed experiments lying around)For the rest of the article visit Oviedo Style Blog

I found Atelier Kanawa on Etsy.com. Her delicate hair pins , jewelry, and Kimono baskets are so beautiful. It's great to see some traditional styles that have survived the changing seasons of fashions. To read the full article visit

Here are 2 new bags, I used material that was unwanted.
The Purple Antique bag was made from drapery material, then beaded and finally a heart charm I got from somebodies necklace!
The Blue Skull bag was made from a old t-shirt, with a butterfly and some random embroidery lines for color. The handles are detachable, just untie and throw in the washer!
Both bags have magnetic snap closures.
I would love some feedback! Has anybody else made something out of unwanted materials?
Here are some pictures I took from my last trip to downtown San Diego, Enjoy!

About I love art, creating crafts, and I love supporting other artists. This is one reason my mother JoAnne and I started Mercado del Mundo so we could support new artists and cooperatives and give them a outlet to show their designs. We have jewelry by artists from San Francisco to Texas and hope to find more all over the world. Our Silks come from China, The Wrinkle Free Clothing is made in Los Angeles, and I design the one of a kind Handbags.
Because what Mercado del Mundo translates into is World Market.
